Different Types of Online Poker Games
Summary: Online poker games feature a variety of types
of games, including Texas Holdem, Omaha and seven card stud.
There is quite a wide variety of online poker games, it can sometimes be dizzying! That’s why PokerStop.com has put together this guide to the most popular poker variations you’ll find in your favorite online poker room.
1.
Texas Holdem Poker
The most popular poker variation, Texas
Hold’em is the game you’ve most likely seen on TV. With two hidden
hole cards and five exposed community cards, Hold’em is packed with great
action and strategy and there’s always a game available online, whatever your
stakes or skill level.
a. Limit Texas Hold 'em: A great way to learn the basics of Texas Hold’em before trying your hand at No-Limit, as betting amounts are pre-determined and limited to a fixed sum.
b. No-limit Texas Hold 'em: The infamous “Cadillac” of poker, made famous by old school road gamblers Doyle Brunson and Amarillo Slim Preston. Incredible action with no maximum bet restriction.
2.
Omaha Poker
A high-action game that is growing in popularity, Omaha is similar to
Hold’em but with one major difference: In Omaha you get four hole cards,
although you can only use two to comprise your final hand.
a. Omaha Hi: One of two Omaha variations, in Omaha Hi only the high hand wins the pot.
b. Omaha Hi-Lo: Adding a challenging strategic wrinkle, in Omaha Hi-Lo the pot is split between the best high hand and the best qualified low hand (five cards under eight with no pair). If there is no qualified low, the high hand wins the whole pot.
3.
Seven-Card Stud Poker
In seven-card stud – the preferred game of poker traditionalists – each
player is dealt two cards face down and one face up. After the bring-in (a
forced bet made by the smallest card showing) and a betting round, the next
three cards are dealt face up with a betting round after each. Final card is
dealt face down.
a. 7 Card Stud Hi: The most straight-forward stud variation, as the straight-up high hand wins the whole pot.
b. 7 Card Stud Hi-Lo: Also called Seven-Card Stud Eight-or-Better, Stud Hi-Lo is an intricate game gaining in popularity. The main difference between high only games is half the pot goes to the lowest hand - which, by the way, is A-2-3-4-5 (straights and flushes don’t count).
c. Razz: Razz is Seven-Card Stud in reverse. The lowest possible hand wins the pot, which in Razz is also A-2-3-4-5 (straights and flushes are null and void). Razz is usually played with fixed betting limits.
